Continuing on, there is also an adaptation of William Styron's novel "Lie Down in Darkness" on Cooper's plate, a story that will carry a personal touch as it's set in his native Virginia. A Southern Gothic tale in the tradition of William Faulkner, the novel tells the story of the dysfunctional Loftis family, and particularly patriarch Milton and wife Helen on the day they set out to bury their daughter Peyton.
"I wrote the script just after 'Crazy Heart,' but with that one, it really comes down to cast," he says. "When you're casting a family, all the elements have to come together perfectly and delicately. I'm in the process of talking to a number of actors and actresses."
A premature report last August announced Kristen Stewart as attached in the role of Peyton, but Cooper says there was no truth to it. He'd like to first cast the role of Milton and move on from there.

Kristen Stewart on Possible Next Project 'Lie Down the Darkness': It's Not Happening Yet
Contrary to swirling reports that Kristen Stewart has officially snatched "Lie Down in Darkness" as her next project post-"TwilightSaga", the actress herself confessed that she still hadn't secured any new movie gig yet. Though so, she admitted to be happy for not being committed to any project so she could be free to pick her next film. "It's been a little while since I haven't had stuff mapped out, so it's nice," she told MTV News. "I'm in a good place to choose." When asked about her involvement in "Lie Down the Darkness", Kristen responded, "I don't know yet."
"I know it's weird to skirt subjects. I think it's been said on the Internet that I'm doing 'Lie Down in Darkness'; it's not happening just yet," the Los Angeles native clarified the report. "I don't know when they're [going to officially green-light the film]. I love that thing, I would do anything to get that to go, but it's just not yet. Hopefully it does, but other than that, nothing."
